| The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of
India has notified the Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2010 w.e.f.
01.04.2010. The said rules were notified by the Ministry of
Home Affairs in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section
(1) of Section 11 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998.
These rules were notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs
after due consultation with various State Governments for
better regulation of online as well as paper lottery schemes.
After notification of new rules, the Government of India
has also tabled the same before the both Houses of Parliament
for their approval and withdrew the long pending Lotteries
Prohibition Bill 1999 from the Rajya Sabha.
The new rules give opportunity to various State Governments
to start their lotteries because under these rules the numbers
of draws are fixed and the lottery schemes are to be on the
basis of 4 digits only.
