New Lottery Rules

The Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has notified the Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2010 w.e.f. 01.04.2010. The said rules were notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 11 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998.

These rules were notified by the Ministry of Home Affairs after due consultation with various State Governments for better regulation of online as well as paper lottery schemes.

After notification of new rules, the Government of India has also tabled the same before the both Houses of Parliament for their approval and withdrew the long pending Lotteries Prohibition Bill 1999 from the Rajya Sabha.

The new rules give opportunity to various State Governments to start their lotteries because under these rules the numbers of draws are fixed and the lottery schemes are to be on the basis of 4 digits only.
