The 11th and 12th Bhagwan
Mahaveer Awards were presented by Her Excellency 
Smt.Pratibha Devi Singh Patil, Hon’ble President of India
at Yellow Room, Rashtrapati Bhavan, New Delhi on 19th May
2008. The awards were presented in the presence of Selection
Jury of the Foundation and other elite gathering.
The Bhagwan Mahaveer Foundation gives three
Mahaveer Awards every year and the awards are given for Excellence
in Human Endeavour in the fields of:
1) Non-violence and Vegetarianism
2) Education and Medicine
3) Community and Social Service.
In his welcome speech Shri N. Sugal
Chand Jain – Managing Trustee of the Foundation and the Chairman
of Sugal & Damani Group welcome and thanked to
the Hon’ble President
for giving an opportunity to present the Bhagwan Mahaveer
Awards to the recipients. Mr. Jain explained the objective
of the Foundation and the relevant process of finalization
of awards by the selection jury. Mr. Jain further explained
that the foundation received hundreds of nominations from
all over the country from the individuals and institutions
who are rendering services to the needy sections of the society
at large.
The Hon’ble President presented 11th
Mahaveer Awards to the following persons:
1) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Non-violence & Vegetarianism
– 2005 – Sri Bharat Amritlal Kothari, Gujarat.
2) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Education & Medicine 2005 – Dr.
Shiv Kumar Sarin, New Delhi
3) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Community & Social Service 2005 - Acharya
Kishore Kunal, Patna.
The 12th Mahaveer Awards were given to the following persons:
1) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Non-violence & Vegetarianism – 2006 –
Action for Protection of Wild Animals, Orissa.
2) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Education & Medicine 2006 – Mahatma
Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Maharashtra.
3) Award for Excellence
in the sphere of Community & Social Service 2006 - Acharya
Kishore Kunal, Patna.
